Our Approach to Funeral Stationery Design & Print
The idea to start Fitting Farewell and designing and printing funeral stationery came about because my wife lost her sister, Janine, to breast cancer in 2007, at the age of just 38. We designed and created her Funeral Order of Service.
”As I was a graphic designer, I was asked by her family to put together something special for the funeral which featured photographs of her and the family. This was a very positive experience for the family and although they weren’t putting the design together on the computer, it was very much shaped by their thoughts and ideas. I listened to what they wanted but used my design skills to create something beautiful.”
”Many people who attended the funeral commented on the Order of Service, and how much they loved the photos and the personalisation. I was happy that I could do this for them and that it wasn’t just the normal black and white funeral service sheet you normally see.”
”Everyone kept them and for some it was one of the few recent photos they had of their friend. All of them took it home. One of them went into her young son’s memory box for when he is older. Her mother had extra copies for family and friends who couldn’t attend. They are kept safe and occasionally looked at by her family and friends.”
”It would be nice to show you the design that started it all but we don’t feel that it would be right. It is personal to us and that is something we respect at Fitting Farewell. You will see that all the designs on the website are samples using models and the details are completely fictitious.”
”Over the next couple of years, I was asked by friends and family to create funeral service sheets for them. It was then that we thought that we could start providing the service commercially.”
”Alison and I believe if something so simple can mean so much, then why shouldn’t everyone have the opportunity to have the same for their loved one. That is why we started Fitting Farewell – it’s about making something special to remember your loved one by.”
”We show many different designs on our website, but they are just the starting point. We can personalise and adapt an existing design, or create something totally unique. Whatever the family want, we try to accommodate. After all, we just want to make sure we help families give their loved one a fitting farewell.”
